How many of us had a favorite teacher? Mrs. Locke, my second grade teacher, was mine. We cherish the memories of the teacher who made going to school exciting.
Carl Schneider, along with five other teachers from Whitney Achievement Elementary School in Memphis, TN are teachers these students will not easily forget. On Sept. 28, Tabitha Tudy Jones, a resident of Memphis, posted the above picture on social media of Mr. Schneider walking students home from school.
Mr. Schneider is joined by fellow teachers Kevin Sullivan, Auriel Rolle-Polk, Allison Thompson and Valeria Bostick to safely walk students home. The teachers are part of a volunteer program where 200 students who live within one or two miles of the school are divided in groups then walked home.
Mr. Schneider said the walks give them a chance to connect with the students and talk about what they learned. The teacher also said parents welcome the opportunity to informally discuss how their children spent the day in school. Mr. Schneider, part of the program for three years, was surprised at this recent attention. He said he looks forward to the walks at the end of the school day and says it is part of his routine.
Mr. Schneider was quoted saying , “I think our students deserve the same love and quality education as students in any other district.”
We at Any1townUSA thank the teachers at Whitney Achievement Elementary School and all teachers who work tirelessly to educate and positively impact our children.
